Harewood House
Harewood is one of the Treasure Houses of England set in the heart of Yorkshire. With rolling 'Capability' Brown landscapes, an impressive art collection including works by JMW Turner & El Greco, renaissance masterpieces, exquisite Thomas Chippendale furniture, fabulous Robert Adam interiors, combined with 100 acres of award-winning Gardens and a renowned lakeside Bird Garden, Harewood really does offer something for everyone. Your entrance includes full access to the House, Gardens, Farm & Bird Garden. Your return journey through Otley, Ilkley & Skipton with a break for refreshments along the route.
Beningbrough Hall, Gallery & Gardens
Inspired by his grand tour, John Bourchier created Beningbrough, an Italian Palace nestled between York, Harrogate and Leeds. The impressive rooms are a perfect backdrop for the rich collection of portraits on loan from the National Portrait Gallery, Beningbrough's long-term partner. The paintings feature people who have made, and are making, British history and culture.
A working walled garden, grand herbaceous borders and sweeping lawns create a
year-round garden. Picture postcard views can be seen from the garden and the
parkland offers opportunities to explore riverside walks, ancient trees and discover
hidden wildlife. A stop in Harrogate - perhaps tea at Betty's will round the day off nicely.
Day 5 - Check out for your homeward journey with a special treat planned on the way.
Heights of Abraham - Cable Car Ride. Matlock. Peak District's most appealing destination! Today the Heights is right where stunning natural beauty is matched by human achievement and where the historic blends seamlessly with the futuristic. The Heights is famous for its landmark cable car which provides a spectacular journey across the Derwent Valley. At the summit people can experience a unique blend of attractions.
There are guided tours down the Great Masson Cavern where, from the glow of a single candle to the whole chamber being flooded with light, its million year history is revealed before exiting further up the hillside to enjoy the magnificent panorama from the Tinker's Shaft viewing point. A virtual tour of the cavern is also available. Exhibitions and films demonstrate why the Heights has been a favourite place to visit for many generations, there are also shops, play areas and numerous picnic spots to discover, and if you feel hungry the Vista Bar and Restaurant is a great place to eat, drink and enjoy stunning views in acres of beautiful woodland.
