EES (EUROPEAN ENTRY & EXIT SYSTEM) & ETIAS (EUROPEAN TRAVEL INFORMATION & AUTHORISATION SYSTEM)
EES is the new entry and exit system for UK citizens (and many other citizens) when entering or exiting the EU which will start operations on 12 October 2025. European countries using the EES will introduce the system gradually at their external borders. This means that biometric data collection will be gradually introduced at border crossing points with full implementation by 10 April 2026
The ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) ‘Visa-waiver’ programme will start operations in the last quarter of 2026 (exact date TBC). All travellers from non-EU countries to the EU will need to apply online for an ETIAS. Applications can take up to 30 days to process. The cost will be €20 per person and will be valid for 3 years. Travellers under the age of 18 and over the age of 70
will be exempt from paying the fee. Please note: Once implemented ETIAS will be compulsory, like a Passport. No ETIAS – No Entry. It is your responsibility to make sure you have the required documentation in place.
