Enjoy time at leisure in Newcastle, a vibrant seaside resort town famously located at the foot of Slieve Donard, Northern Ireland's highest mountain peak. Carlingford & NearyNógs Chocolate Tasting
Into the Republic today to delightful Carlingford to explore at leisure. Full of character, Carlingford is one of the best-preserved medieval villages in Ireland. Its setting is stunning on the shores of Carlingford Lough with the beautiful Mourne Mountains in the distance. Explore the legends and history with a stroll through the narrow streets and lanes of this walled town - maybe try the famous local oysters. After time for lunch, hop on the Carlingford Ferry leaving the Cooley Peninsula behind for the 20-minute scenic sail from Greenore to Greencastle back in Northern Ireland. Enjoy a delicious visit to NearyNógs, the master craft chocolate experience to discover the heartful story of chocolate and produce for the likes of Fortnum & Mason, Brown Thomas and Avoca! Northern Ireland's first bean to bar craft chocolate makers and the oldest in Ireland, NearyNógs chocolate is small batch crafted on the Mourne Coast. The tour features 5 different chocolate samples and a choice of drinking chocolate.
St Patricks Centre & Lunch in Downpatrick
Head to Downpatrick and the excellent Saint Patrick Centre, the only permanent exhibition in the world about Ireland's Patron Saint. The history of Ireland starts here, narrated by Irish actor Ciaran Hinds in Patrick's words, which guide you through an amazing multimedia exhibition detailing his life and adventures from his boyhood in Roman Britain to his captivity by Irish pirates. Just next door is Down Cathedral, where (it is believed) the mortal remains of Saint Patrick lie buried. Downpatrick is one of Ireland's most ancient and historic towns and an included soup, sandwich and Irish barmbrack (a traditional Irish yeast bread packed with sultanas, raisins and currants) lunch awaits at the atmospheric Denvir's Restaurant in the heart of the town.
DAY 6 - Dublin
After breakfast depart Newry for Dublin with time for a brief orientation of the Irish capital before taking the mid-afternoon sailing back to Holyhead.
