ITINERARY
DAY 1 Head to Dover to cross the Channel. Continue via auto-routes to your overnight stop. BB
DAY 2 Through Switzerland and the Gotthard Tunnel to Italy and the lakeside resort of Stresa for your 6-night stay. DBB with wine & water at dinner
DAY 3 – 7 At leisure in Stresa with two included excursions and one optional excursion. Historic town centre, lush gardens and lakeside promenades. Maybe take a trip to the stunning Borromean Islands
INCLUDED EXCURSIONS
Lake Maggiore Express A full day round trip by narrow gauge railway and boat to enjoy the wonderful valleys and towns around the lake. Your journey starts in Stresa with a train to Domodossola and then onto the scenic high level narrow gauge Centovalli Railway which winds through the ‘hundred valleys’ region. Enjoy views of the spectacular mountain scenery and alpine pastures as the train crosses bridges and tunnels to Locarno in Switzerland, an elegant town with a ‘Mediterranean-like’ atmosphere. Cruise back down to Stresa to arrive early evening Lake Como for the day Head to the historic city of Como and then take a scenic drive up the ‘outside leg’ of the lake to the exclusive
resort of Tremezzo with its opulent villas and stunning lake views. From here you can take the little ferry (not included) over to charming Bellagio or visit the wonderful botanical gardens at Villa Carlotta (not included)
OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS
Anzasca Valley & Macugnaga Leave the lake behind and head up into the wild mountain scenery of the Anzasca Valley to the pretty Alpine village of Macugnaga, located at 1327m. The village has plenty of authentic charm with its traditional Italian allure, narrow streets and choice of eateries and little shops
DAY 8 Arrivederci to Italy as you head through Germany to the final overnight stop BB
DAY 9 Back to France for the return to England
