      Three Countries Lake Constance

Three Countries Lake Constance OPERA FESTIVAL IN JULY

Lake Constance is one of Europe’s largest lakes and straddles three countries – Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The area is at the heart of Europe within sight of the Alps and has a wonderfully warm climate.

Your holiday base is the medieval town of Feldkirch in Austria, staying in a Crusader favourite hotel, the Weisses Kreuz, which is ideally located for a visit to the Austrian and German shores of Lake Constance as well as a trip into Switzerland to Lake Lucerne and a ride on the Rigi-Kulm rack railway.

Upgrades available on request.

      Your Itinerary

Day 1 – Cross the Channel from Dover to Calais and continue to your overnight stop. Bed & breakfast.

Day 2 – Journey passed the mighty Rhine Falls in Switzerland on the way to Feldkirch for your 4 night stay with welcome drink on arrival. Dinner, bed & breakfast.

Day 3 - 5 – At leisure in Feldkirch with two included excursions

Local transfer into medieval Feldkirch with included entrance to the hilltop castle of Schattenburg.

INCLUDED EXCURSIONS

Lake Constance – by boat & coach

Board one of the ‘White Fleet’ ships at Bregenz and cruise to the pretty Bavarian port of Lindau. Disembark to explore the little harbour with its waterfront cafes before re-joining a boat to Friedrichshafen, home of the excellent Zeppelin Museum (entrance not included). Return to Feldkirch by coach.

Lake Lucerne & the Rigi Rack Railway

Enjoy a Swiss scenic drive via Lake Walen to the lakeside resort of Vitznau on Lake Lucerne.  Today’s highlight is a trip up the world’s first rack and pinion railway opened in 1871. In little over 30 minutes you climb from Vitznau (435m) to the Rigi-Kulm (1798m) where you can expect breathtaking panoramic views. Time for photos before descending where the coach continues to Altdorf, birth place of Wilhelm Tell.

JULY DEPARTURE ONLY – A NIGHT AT THE OPERA

Enjoy a very special evening at the spectacular Bregenz Opera Festival. Every summer, audiences can experience monumental open-air opera productions in a spectacular lakeside setting performed on a ‘lake stage’. In 2018, Georges Bizet’s Carmen will be performed (in French). Category 2 tickets included. Return to the hotel late.

Day 6 – Farewell to Austria as you head north to your final overnight stop. Bed & breakfast.

Day 7 – Back to Calais for the return crossing to England.
