Itinerary

DAY 1 - After joining your holiday coach, you travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais, then continue the short distance up the coast to Dunkirk to check into your centrally located hotel for your 3-night stay. There are restaurants, cafes and shops within walking distance. Bed & continental breakfast

DAY 2 - Today your guide will introduce you to the unmissable sites of Operation Dynamo and the desperate defence by the British Army which pretty much follows the story seen in the film, 'Dunkirk'. Visits include entrance to Dunkirk War Museum 1940 on the site of Bastion 32 bunker which houses a rich collection of weapons, uniforms and images. Fort des Dunes is a remarkable military installation built to defend the city which still bears the scars of battle and German occupation. Many soldiers were evacuated out via the East Mole, the jetty that stuck out from the harbour area and of course, you will see the evocative evacuation beaches where at low tide you can see shipwrecked boats.

DAY 3 - Visit the Dunkirk War Cemetery to see the graves of those who never made it off the beaches or who died in defence of the perimeter which held the Germans at bay. The Dunkirk Memorial commemorates the thousands of missing service personnel with no known grave. Travel onto Bergues on the southern British perimeter along the canal where Captain Ervine Andrews won the Victoria Cross. Continue the short distance to Ostend on the Belgian coast for a visit to the Atlantic Wall Museum (entrance included).

DAY 4 - Before you head back to Calais today for the crossing to Dover a stop will be made at the hilltop town of Cassel, which was valiantly held as long as possible to give troops at Dunkirk precious time to evacuate. Arrive home during the evening.
