DAY 1 - After joining your holiday coach, travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais. Continue via the auto-routes of France to your base in Ouchamps. Dinner, bed & breakfast.
DAY 2 - 4 - At leisure in Ouchamps with two included excursions.
Head west to the elegant town of Amboise with its own royal Renaissance style Château, which is the childhood home of Charles VIII and final resting place of the incomparable Leonardo da Vinci. Built on the foundations of an old fortress, its position perched high on a promontory overlooking the Loire, results in wonderous views. Entrance to the castle and gardens is included.
Chambord & Cheverny with Wine Tasting
Perhaps one of the most ambitious and expensive architectural projects of its time, the Château de Chambord with its 440 rooms, 365 fireplaces and 84 staircases is by far the largest, grandest and most visited château in the region and one of the crowning glories of the French Renaissance period (entrance included). Moving onto the wonderful Château de Cheverny home to the same family for more than six centuries (entrance to the house and gardens included). It exudes an intimate charm and is one of the few fully furnished châteaux in the Loire Valley. The château is the inspiration behind Hergé's Marlinspike Hall as featured in the famous Tintin series (separate entrance to this exhibition not included). Cheverny is also well known for its huge pack of 100 hunting hounds who reside in the kennels. The visit to the château is followed by a tasting of some of delicious wines for which the Loire region has gained such an excellent reputation.
Transfer into Blois, perched on a steep hillside overlooking the Loire, this an utterly charming royal town, full of cobbled streets, twisting alleys, paved squares, cafes and restaurants is full of character and atmosphere. A signposted route leads you on a walking tour of the Vieille Ville (Old Town). The gothic Cathedral towers over the old town and the historic Château Royal de Blois, former palace and home to several French kings and queens (entrance not included) is the star attraction.
DAY 5 - After breakfast, travel back to Calais for the return Channel crossing and the journey home.
