Normandy - Coast & Gardens

Blessed with a stunning natural beauty, Normandy begs to be explored. You can expect dramatic coastal landscapes, quaint pastoral villages, picturesque ports, classic half-timbered buildings and fabulous food, from Camembert to Calvados, from cider to seafood. The legacy of the region's epic history, from the Norman invasion of England in 1066 to the D-Day Landings of 1944, has left its mark. This tour will give you an introduction to the very best of Normandy and with a beautifully authentic Normandy hotel in the heart of the pretty pilgrimage town of Lisieux, you can start exploring as soon as you arrive.

The April departure features a special visit to the Tulip Festival at Chateau de Vendeuvre. Now in its 13th year, the extensive Chateau gardens become a riot of colour with at least 30,000 spring bulbs of tulip, narcissus, crocus and hyacinths.

INCLUDED EXCURSIONS

Chateau de Vendeuvre and Gardens

Vendeuvre is one of the most beautiful chateaux in Normandy with its beautifully decorated 18th century interiors, original kitchens and the Museum of Miniature Furniture with 700 pieces. It is, however, the truly remarkable gardens that are the stars of the show. Discover the different gardens – utility garden, topiary garden, surprise water garden, romantic garden, mazes and the exotic garden! (There are a few steps up to the Chateau)

Deauville, Trouville & Honfleur

With its fine sandy beaches, Deauville is renowned for its glamorous reputation and symbolises elegance, prestige and sophistication. There is ample time here for sightseeing before taking the coastal road via Trouville-sur-Mer to the picturesque old port of Honfleur, a favourite haunt of numerous celebrated artists including Claude Monet. Situated on the Seine estuary, medieval Honfleur exudes maritime charm around the Vieux Bassin with its narrow houses and lively café scene but there is much more to see in the alluring cobbled streets of the old town.

OPTIONAL EXCURSION

Rouen (5 day only)

A gem of a city with its lovingly restored medieval quarter, imposing Gothic cathedral and narrow streets of timber framed houses. Take a stroll through Old Rouen and re-trace the steps of Joan of Arc to see burnt at the stake.

Return Day– Travel back to Calais for the return crossing to England.
