Day 1 - After joining your holiday coach, travel north with suitable stops for lunch and refreshments. Arrive at your overnight hotel in the north late afternoon, in good time to freshen up for your evening meal. Dinner, bed & breakfast
Day 2 - After breakfast, sit back and enjoy the drive as you head further north and into the wild and varied scenery of the Trossachs National Park with lovely Loch Lomond at its heart. Arrive on the West Coast for your 4-night stay in Oban. Dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 3 - 5 - At leisure in Oban with two included excursions.
Isle of Mull - Tobermory & Duart Castle
You will take the ferry on the 45 minutes crossing from Oban to Mull where you will visit the island's main town, Tobermory, famed for the cheerful colours of its waterfront buildings and yachts bobbing about in the natural harbour. Picture-postcard Tobermory is also well known for being the setting of hit children's TV show, Balamory. Before crossing back to Oban, you will visit 13th century Duart Castle which stands on a crag at the end of a peninsula. Explore the castle, gardens and grounds - from the castle down to the water's edge, there are marked walks and pathways which take you around the castle with benches along the way where you can stop and enjoy the views across the Sound of Mull.
Ben Cruachan & Inveraray
Situated amongst some of Scotland's most beautiful scenery, lying deep within Ben Cruachan is one of the country's most amazing engineering achievements. Hidden deep within the mountain of Ben Cruachan on the shores of Loch Awe is Cruachan Power Station. An included 30-minute guided visit transports you into the mountain and at its centre lies a massive cavern which is high enough to house the Tower of London. Within the cavern, enormous turbines convert the power of water into electricity. (NB the tour involves a short walk up an incline with steps and is therefore not suitable for users of wheelchairs or walking aids). Continue to lovely Inverary with its stunning setting on the shores of Loch Fyne. Here you will find a range of attractions including the iconic Inveraray Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll plus the 18th century museum jail.
IMPORTANT NOTE Scottish Power has recently advised that currently there is no access for the underground guided tour of Cruachan Power Station with no date published when the tours can resume. A stop will still be made at Ben Cruachan but instead of the underground tour, there will be a talk about how the power station operates, time to visit the exhibition area, a complimentary guide book and a tea or coffee served with Scottish shortbread. If the underground tours should resume by the time this tour departs, the day will revert to its original format above.
Day 6 - Following breakfast bid farewell to Oban as your journey takes you back to your overnight hotel in Northern England. Dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 7 - After a leisurely breakfast, head back homewards with ample stops for coffee and refreshments. Continue back to the local joining points via the fast motorway network arriving back mid/late evening.
