Day 1 – After joining your holiday coach, you travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais, then continue to Germany via the auto-routes of France and Belgium and onto Remagen. It will be a late arrival at the hotel this evening where a light supper awaits. Supper, bed & breakfast
Day 2 – REMAGEN At leisure in Remagen. Dinner, bed & breakfast.
During your leisure time, you may be interested to visit the Peace Museum, housed in one of the surviving basalt towers of the famous bridge, where visitors can learn about Remagen’s pivotal role in WW2. Or why not cross the Rhine to Linz (not the Austrian Linz!), the ‘colourful town on the Rhine’ with its cobbled alleyways, pretty timbered houses and Linz castle. Dinner, bed & breakfast.
Day 3 – TRAVEL Drive across Germany today heading south towards the charming old city of Passau on the confluence of the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz. Overnight with bed & breakfast.
Day 4 – PASSAU & LINZ Enjoy some time this morning in Passau with its romantic lanes, picturesque squares, baroque architecture and the magnificent St Steven's Cathedral home to the world's largest church organ. Then drive the short distance to Linz to board the MV Esmeralda for your 7 night Danube cruise. Full board starting with a welcome cocktail reception and dinner. Docked in Linz overnight.
Day 5 – CRUISING – Spend the day afloat cruising towards Vienna for an evening arrival. So relax, enjoy the scenery and the onboard facilities and dining. Docked in Vienna overnight.
Day 6 – VIENNA Spend the day exploring Vienna, a wonderful city with a fantastic mix of imperial palaces and residences, Art Nouveau masterpieces and excellent pedestrian areas. Explore with a local guide on your included Vienna tour (may operate with a local coach) along the famous Ringstrasse to the world-famous Vienna State Opera House, home of the annual Opera Ball. Close by is the grand Hofburg Palace, the former winter residence of the Imperial Family and pass by the Museum of Art History, the neoclassical Parliament and the striking City Hall where the legendary Life Ball takes place. Overnight sailing to Budapest.
Day 7 – BUDAPEST Majestic Budapest is made up of two parts, Buda and Pest, separated by the magnificent Danube. Romantic Buda with its historic castle district offers medieval streets, museums and Roman ruins. Bustling Pest boasts the largest parliament building in Europe, riverside promenades, flea markets, antique stores and amazing Great Market Hall. Highlights of the capital include Heroes Square, Castle Hill, the State Opera House, the magnificent parliament building and Vaci Utca, the main pedestrian thoroughfare. Overnight sailing to Bratislava.
Day 8 – BRATISLAVA – Spend the morning cruising to arrive in Bratislava around lunchtime. Enjoy the afternoon in one of Europe’s youngest capitals, intriguing Bratislava has been the capital of the newly independent Slovakia since 1993. Docked in Bratislava overnight with early morning departure.
Day 9 – DÜRNSTEIN – Cruising all day today heading towards Dürnstein, the most famous medieval Danube river town in the Wachau region of Austria. Arrive late afternoon to appreciate this beautiful town with its famous ruined castle illuminated at night. Docked in Dürnstein overnight.
Day 10 – MELK – Morning cruise to Melk where the Benedictine Abbey perched on a hill above the river at Melk dominates the little town. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, its unique Baroque architecture is a sight to behold. Cruise on this afternoon to Linz to arrive late this evening. Captain’s Farewell dinner this evening with a small gift for the ladies.
Day 11 – TRAVEL Disembark in Linz early this morning for a big travel day ahead as you travel to your final overnight stop. Bed & breakfast.
Day 12 – Back to Calais and the return ferry crossing to Dover, arriving home during the evening.
