      Awesome Alpine Austria
Awesome Alpine Austria The very essence of Alpine Austria

Kirchberg in Tirol is a classically pretty Tyrolean village and popular holiday resort nestled in the midst of the picturesque Kitzbüheler Alps, just 6km away from the world famous winter sports centre of Kitzbühel. This region is the very essence of everything that Alpine Austria is known for - crystal clear lakes, snowy mountain peaks, chocolate box villages and impossibly cute chalets bedecked with colourful flowers. This panoramic tour takes you through some strikingly beautiful scenery by road, rail and boat to experience the highlights of the Tyrol.

The August departure also takes in the charming Kirchberg Flower Parade (entrance included).

  • Hotel for 5 nights with breakfast & buffet dinner
  • Overnight hotel for 2 nights with breakfast
  • Welcome drink on arrival
  • 'Kaffee und Kuchen' on one afternoon
  • Two included excursions as stated
  • Achensee cog railway and boat trip

Hotel Metzgerwirt, Kirchberg In Tyrol

3* Hotel Kirchenwirt, Kirchberg in Tirol
(August departure only)

You can expect a warm welcome and a friendly atmosphere at the 3* family run Hotel Kirchenwirt which is located just 3 minutes' walk from the town centre. The mountain style rooms are simply but comfortably furnished and offer TV, safe and hair dryer. There is a cosy Tyrolean restaurant as well as a lift.

Day 1 - After joining your holiday coach, travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais. Then continue via the auto-routes of France heading to Germany to the overnight stop. Bed & Breakfast.

Day 2 - The journey continues through Germany and then as the Alpine scenery unfolds, you cross the border into Austria and your resort hotel for your 5-night stay. Welcome drink on arrival with dinner, bed & breakfast.

Days 3 - 6 -
At leisure in Kirchberg in Tirol with two included excursions. Dinner, bed & breakfast.

You will have a free day in Kirchberg to explore the town, maybe stroll by the beautiful lake, explore the town's shops and cafes or alternatively you may like to hop on a local train to nearby Kitzbühel or even Innsbrück. Traditional 'Kaffee und Kuchen' (coffee and cake) is served this afternoon in the hotel.

On 15th August the famous Kirchberg Flower Parade takes place. You will be able to walk to the pedestrianised centre which comes alive with music and stalls. Please note that the short walk into town is down a reasonably steep hill. The highlight of the day is at approx. 3pm when local businesses, hotels and clubs parade through the village with their 'flower sculptures' of over 500,000 flowers.

Included Excursions
Grossglockner & Zell am See
Almost certainly one of Europe's greatest drives, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road is a stupendous feat of 1930's engineering, allowing what was once the domain of mountaineers and alpinists to be accessible to all. The 36 bends and turns on the 48km mountain road make for a one of a kind mountain experience right up to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe (2369m) where you can enjoy the superlative glacier and mountain views as well as time for refreshments. Head back via the charming lakeside town of Zell am See with its compact centre and brightly painted chalets.

Achen Lake - Cog Railway & Boat
Scenic drive to Jenbach to board the original Achenseebahn cog railway. Dating back to 1889, these steam engines are some of the oldest in the world still in service for public transport. The train winds its way up above the Inn Valley to its destination, the largest Alpine lake in the Tyrol, Lake Achen. You will enjoy a short boat cruise from Seespitz to Pertisau where there is free time to enjoy lunch in the lakeside resort or a stroll along the promenade before returning to the hotel.

Optional Excursion
Mayrhofen & Krimml Falls
Take a drive through the Zillertal (Ziller Valley) and enjoy classic, picture book Tyrol - fertile farmland, wooded slopes, snowy peaks and the racing Ziller River. Free time in the popular, year round resort of Mayrhofen before heading over the panoramic Gerlos Alpine Pass. This spectacular scenic road offers amazing views with superb stopping points to photograph the breath-taking Krimml Falls, the highest waterfalls in Europe. Enjoy free time at the visitor centre or why not walk to the base of the falls.

Day 7 - Farewell to Austria today as you head northwards to the final overnight stop. Bed & breakfast.

Day 8 - After breakfast, travel back through France to Calais for the return to England.
