4* Girona Flower Festival & Roses
4* Girona Flower Festival & Roses Overflowing with colourful displays

Girona's historic old town overflows with colourful displays during the Temps de Flors every spring. Far more intriguing than a standard flower show, the streets of Girona are filled with the scents and shades of impressive floral displays. There are over a hundred exhibits and arrangements - on the Cathedral steps, the grand staircase of the town hall, the Arab baths, patios, bridges and spaces not normally open to the public.

PLEASE NOTE - The dates of the Girona Flower Festival are confirmed as 13th - 21st May 2017. This unfortunately means that the tour misses the start of the festival by one day. The excursion to Girona will take place on Friday 12th May when you can expect to see many of the flower displays already installed around the city ready for the official festival opening the following day. The Girona guide will therefore be able to give you a 'preview' of some of the floral displays but please be aware that other sites will not be completely ready or available to view.

Roses is the largest resort on the northern stretch of the Costa Brava. Steeped in history with origins going back to the 8th century BC when the first settlers arrived here from ancient Greece, today, this picturesque old fishing village has been transformed into a modern holiday destination, enjoying a year-round mild climate.

Coastal Tour visiting Cadaqués
Facing the Mediterranean Sea at the head of a crystal clear bay, Cadaqués was a favourite of both Picasso and Salvador Dalí who were drawn to the area's incredible light and sea breezes. Cadaqués remains a favourite spot for artists and is very popular with weekenders from Barcelona and visitors from further afield. The town has been developed carefully over the years and retains its charm and it is right on the edge of the Cap de Creus Peninsula, where the Pyrenees mountains meet the sea.

Girona is a fabulous mix of museums, galleries and Gothic churches around a tangle of cobbled lanes and medieval walls. Its historic centre is dominated by medieval buildings and a maze of narrow lanes and within the walled enclosure of La Força Vella, the old Jewish quarter (El Call), one of the best preserved medieval Jewish quarters in Europe, is a treat for the eyes and the soul. A local guide will give you an insight into Girona's fascinating history on a walking tour and be able to give you a 'preview' of some of the floral displays being prepared around the city for the famous 'Festival of Flowers' which opens on 13th May.

Optional Excursion
France for the Day - Perpignan & Argelés sur Mer
At the foot of the French Pyrenees, just a few miles north of the Spanish border, Perpignan's old town's is a warren of alleys, palm-shaded squares and brightly painted tenements. The one time capital of the Kingdom of Mallorca, Perpignan is still very Catalan in style and you may enjoy a stroll along the 19th century promenades and gardens. A visit will also be made to Argelés sur Mer with its 7km of wide sandy beaches, clear blue Mediterranean water and lively marina full of shops and cafes.

Day 7: - Farewell to Spain as you head northwards to the final stop in the Central France area. Bed & breakfast.

Day 8 - After breakfast, travel back through France to Calais for the return to England.
