Bavarian Winter Adventure Be enchanted by the captivating Bavarian Forest in winter

You can't help but be enchanted by the captivating Bavarian Forest in winter with its snow-capped mountains, peaceful valleys and picture perfect villages and towns. This brand new tour, staying on the edge of Germany's oldest National Park, is full of wonderful winter experiences including visits to a husky farm, igloo village and a tree top walk plus trips to the magical towns of Passau and Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. Discover this beautiful region of Eastern Bavaria and should there be no snow, alternative activities are already planned to ensure you get the most from your stay.

Please note that this holiday involves a medium amount of easy walking and you should come prepared with warm outdoor clothing and sturdy, non-slip waterproof shoes / boots.

HOTEL AHORNHOF, LINDBERG
The cosy 4* Hotel Ahornhof enjoys a beautiful panoramic location right on the edge of the forest on a hill in the Bavarian Forest National Park close to Germany's border with the Czech Republic. It offers 124 comfortable, country-house-style bedrooms equipped with a bath or shower and WC, a hair-dryer, a telephone and satellite TV. There is a Wellness complex with an indoor swimming pool and saunas, an outdoor swimming pool (summer only) and professional spa treatments (additional charge). The restaurant serves fresh Bavarian and Bohemian cuisine and there is free WiFi available in the lobby.

Please note that not all Continental Hotels have tea and coffee making facilities in the bedrooms. Tea and Coffee are not always served after dinner, it is left to the discretion of each hotel. 

 



      Itinerary
     
   


DAY 1 - From your chosen joining point your feeder vehicle will take you to the designated interchange point where your holiday begins. After joining your holiday coach, you will travel to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais. Continue into Germany to the overnight hotel in the Cologne Bonn area. Bed and breakfast.

DAY 2 - Today you will journey on the Autobahn network passing by the cities of Frankfurt, Würzburg and Nuremberg on the way to Grafenau, on the edge of the Bavarian National Park for your 5-night stay. Your stay begins with a gentle torch-lit walk in the countryside around the hotel and the village with a stop en-route for a warming mulled wine. Dinner, bed and breakfast.

DAY 3 - DAY 6 - You will have four full days to explore this beautiful region with a full programme of excursions. Dinner, bed and breakfast.

Bavarian Tree Top Walk & Crystal Adventure
Transfer by coach to Neuschönau where, fully accessible (lift available) and escorted by a guide, you will walk amongst the tree tops on an elevated (step free) pathway at between 8m and 25m above the forest floor. Untouched nature, breathtaking views and boundless forest wilderness await. A truly unique and invigorating experience (NB will close in extreme icy conditions). Travel on through the Bavarian Forest to Bodenmais and Joska Crystal Adventure World, a sparkling world of glass where glass blowers demonstrate traditional techniques, modern design and skilful artistry. Time at leisure to have lunch before a brief guided tour of Joska.

Baroque Passau, the Three Rivers City
A leisurely day to explore the atmospheric city of Passau on the confluence of the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz, with its charming old town full of romantic lanes, picturesque squares, baroque architecture and the magnificent St Steven's Cathedral home to the world's largest church organ. There will be an optional guided city walk through the historic centre.

Winter Fun with huskies and igloos
Today is what real winter is all about. Weather permitting, you will visit the Dreisessel husky farm to learn about the habits, training and feeding of these elegant and intelligent working dogs with their beautiful eyes and thick coats. After an included drink and visit, continue on to Freyung where there will be free time for a lunch before arriving at the igloo village for a warming mulled wine and a guided tour. In case of no snow, an alternative programme will be offered today which may feature a carriage ride and traditional Bavarian lunch at Michlbauer Hof.

Captivating Cesky Krumlov
Cross the border today into the Czech Republic for an included day in charming UNESCO world heritage Cesky Krumlov, located on the Vltava River and famed for its magnificent 13th century castle. It is a fine example of a beautifully preserved central European medieval town and features many Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque elements. You may like to join the optional tour with an informative local guide.

DAY 7 - Today you depart the Bavaria Forest, heading back up to the Cologne Bonn region for an overnight stop. There will be time to stop en route in another medieval gem of a town, Regensburg on the Danube. Bed and breakfast.

DAY 8 - Today after an early breakfast, it's Auf Wiedersehen as you travel back through France to Calais for the return crossing to England.
