DAY 1: Our feeder vechicle will take you to our designated interchange point where your holiday begins with a morning departure to Dover and our ferry crossing to Calais. We then continue via the auto-routes of France, Belgium and Germany and onto our hotel in Remagen.
DAYS 2 & 3 – (4 Day Weekends) – DAYS 2 - 4 (5 Day Holidays) – DAYS 2 - 6 (7 Day Holidays)
At leisure in Remagen with our programme of suggested walks to choose from and maps included in your holiday price. Mileages and approximate times are given.
The following suggestions can shortened or extended to suit individual fitness and personal preferences.
Please note:- Train and boat fares not included and other walks are available.
Tour 1 - Rheinsteig to Linz: 8-12 km, 2½-3 hours, 350 m:
Via Erpel through the Kasbach Valley with the Steffens brewery to medieval town of Linz. You can return by boat (Easter - October) or along the river path.
Tour 2 - RheinBurgenweg to Rolands´s Arch: 13 km, 3½ h, 450 m:
From Remagen via Bandorf, Oberwinter to the Rolands Arch at Rolandseck. Enjoy a great view of the Drachenfels. (Dragon’s Rock). Return to Remagen by train or pleasure boat (Easter - October).
Tour 3 - Rheinsteig Riesling Tour: 20 km, 5 hours, hilly, 350-700 m:
Travel by train to Bad Breisig and ferry to Bad Hönningen. Rheinsteig walk through the Riesling Hills to Leutesdorf. Return by train to Erpel and cross by ferry to Remagen. A second route takes you the other direction to Linz and Erpel.
Tour 4 - Rail & Hike: 8 km, 2 hours. hilly:
Take the “Volcano Express” railway to Engeln. A two hours geological walk passing the castle ruin Olbrück to Oberzissen. Alternatively, make the circular walk from Toennisstein station to Trasshoehlenweg. Return by train via Brohl to Remagen.
Tour 5 – Ahr Valley, Red Wine Walking Trail: 12-15 km, 4 hours, hilly 350-450 m:
This is a highlight of the week! You travel by train to Altenahr. From here you follow the Red Wine Walking Trail via Mayschoss to Rech. Return through the hills via the Saffenburg Castle or on the level along the cycle path and finish the walk with a cellar visit and wine tasting at the oldest wine growers cooperative of the world. Do not forget to visit the walled city Ahrweiler on the way back to Remagen.
Tour 6 - Seven Hills, Fairy Tale Country:
Enjoy more walks on the Rheinsteig trail between Koenigswinter and Erpel. The great panoramic views from the Lion Castle at 455 metres are not to be missed.
LAST DAY: After breakfast, we travel back through Germany, Belgium and France to Calais for our return to England.
